Saleen: The production

Saleen could be considered one of the most prolific constructors of special cars models, and an excellent ingeneering innovator. Here follows a brief sum up about Saleen production, which then we will show case by case.

Saleen Mustang 1984: that’s the first, without any mark that characterize it, created on Fox Body platform, with 5 l engine, with modified suspencions (that made Saleen famous ’til now) and aesthetic appendices. there were produced only three of this kind, one white, one copper glow and a black one.

SALEEN RANGER: developed on the base of a Ford Racing platform for Ford Ranger in 80’s

SALEEN SA-5: It’s a prototype, black with  DP5 rims. The only one created during this year, it will be the “mother” of  the SSC. SALEEN SSC: A limited edition of 1989, the first one with modified engine and transmissions made up by Saleen. All the 161 produced were HatchBack with white 16” DP5 rims, chevron yellow and grey stripes strisce, without back seats unless one.

SALEEN SR:  A GT of 1990 modified with Saleen  parts and body-kit ;

SALEEN SC: Limited edition produced on  Fox Body in 1990, 1991, e 1993.  13 Hatchbacks  prduced in  1990; 10 in 1991; 3 Hatchbacks e 2 convertibles in 1993 with Vortech Supercharger;

SALEEN SA-10: A limited edition of 1993, born for celebrating 10 years of  Saleen.It was forecasted in 10 different models but at the end only 9 were built ( the n° SA-10 93-0004  wasn’t produced).These cars had a yellow and grey scheme , rims which can be divided in 3 parts, Alcon, Vortech Supercharger brakes and only two have RECARO leather seats (the model #003 was equipped withFLO-FIT seats , an american company now disappeared, which produces sporting seats). No one of the 10 mustung constructed are alike, because the optional list was really rich). With an unusual marketing choice, the priority was given to the SOEC orders.

SALEEN S 351 R-CODE: On a V6 base (1994, 1996-2000)or on  GT base (1998) an awesome supercar. By using a 5,8 l Windsor equipped with a supercharger. Its powervaries between 480 hp and 506 hp .

SALEEN S281: Created on the base of a  Mustang GT, with 4,6 l engine (281 c.i.), with upgraded suspensions and aesthetic. this is the standard – bearer and best selling by Saleen from 1996.

SALEEN SA-15: 1998.Commemorating Saleen 15th anniversary. It was born as a yellow with black decals convertible ,opposite than the 10th anniversary.  Equipped with 4.6 l supercharger engine, Speedline 18” yellow star – spoke magnesium rims 18″. It’s the first S281 superchargedthat uses an Eaton supercharger. Directly offered to the customers through the SEOC;

SALEEN SA 25: 2008, Solo 25 create, Sterling Edition, su base Saleen S302 E, 620 cv di mostro stradale, color argento metallizzato; SALEEN H302-3V: 2008-09, 390 hp (290 kW) – Prosegue la line up della H281. A Differenza della H281, Questa Versione ha lo stesso hood scoop della S302PJ, con cui condivide anche la meccanica e il motore da 5,0 litri a alta compressione, senza profili cromati, ed è disponibile in tutti i colori Ford OEM, tranne il Grabber Orange.  Le Stripes laterali sono identiche alla H281;

SALEEN H302-SC: 2008-09, 580 hp (430 kW) – Equipaggiata con un sistema di induzione forzata Saleen, questa versione aumenta le performance della H302 con alcune delle modifiche speciali della S302PJ, come ad esempio il Watts Link. A causa del compressore, quest’auto non è munita dell’hood scoop presente sulla S302PJ;

SALEEN S302 DH: 2009, Dark Horse Edition, 62o cv. Monta cambio a 6 marce Tremec 6600, è stata il banco prova del compressore Saleen Shakercharger. Prodotta in soli 25 esemplari(vedi articolo dedicato);

SALEEN SMS 25th anniversary Concept: 2008, 720 cv, un solo Esemplare costruito. A nostro avviso la più bella Saleen ad oggi costruita. Di proprietà di Steve Saleen, ha una linea incredibile( vedi articolo dedicato);

SALEEN 302 GF: 2014, 495 cv, 250 esemplari costruiti. Costruita per commemorare uno dei più vincenti piloti della nostra era, George Follmer,

SALEEN 570:nuova auto basata sulla 2008-attuale Dodge Challenger; SALEEN 640: nuova auto basata sulla 20010-attuale Chevrolet Camaro. forFord Ranger  in 80’s.

SALEEN SA-5: Prototipo, nera con cerchi DP5. Unico prototipo creato quell’anno, sarà la madre della SSC.

SALEEN SSC: Un’edizione limitata del 1989, la prima con modifiche a motore e trasmissione fatte da Saleen.Tutte le 161 auto prodotte erano HatchBack con cerchi DP5 bianchi da 16″,strisce gialle e grigie chevron,tutte senza sedili posteriori, tranne una;

SALEEN SR: Una GT del 1990 Modificata con Parti e body-kit Saleen;

SALEEN SC: Prodotta in edizione limitata su Fox Body nel 1990, 1991, e 1993.  13 Hatchbacks costruite nel 1990; 10 hatchbacks costruite nel 1991; 3 Hatchbacks e 2 convertibili nel 1993 con Vortech Supercharger;

SALEEN SA-10: Edizione limitata del 1993, nata per celebrare i 10 anni di Saleen, Era stata prevista in 10 modelli, ma alla fine ne vennero costruiti solo 9 (il modello n° SA-10 93-0004  non venne mai prodotto). Le auto avevano uno schema colori nero-giallo, cerchi scomponibili in 3 parti, freni Alcon, Vortech Supercharger e solo 2 avevano anche i sedili RECARO in pelle ( il modello #003 montava sedili della FLO-FIT, azienda americana produttrice di sedili sportivi, ormai scomparsa). Nessuna delle 10 mustang costruite è uguale all’altra, in quanto la lista optional era veramente ricca. Con un inusuale scelta di marketing (per l’epoca), venne data la precedenza sugli ordini all’ SOEC ( Saleen Owners Enthusiast Club);

SALEEN S 351 R-CODE: Su base V6 (1994, 1996-2000) o su base GT (1998) veniva creata una mostruosa supercar, Utilizzando un 5,8 litri Windsor dotato di compressore volumetrico. La potenza variava dai 480 cv ai 506 cv, i base all’anno;

SALEEN S281: Creata su Base Mustang GT, con motore 4,6lt (281 c.i.), con solo upgrade sospensioni ed estetica, E’ il portabandiera e il modello più venduto della Saleen dal 1996;

SALEEN XP-8: Produced from 1998 to 2001,on a Ford Explorer base, available with 2 or 4 drive wheels,  5,0 lt or 5,0lt csupercharger engine , 150 copies produced , 20 reserved to Saleen employees ;

SALEEN XP-6: Produced in 1998. they were born for a delivery mistake made by Ford, that sent some Explorer V6 to Saleen. Send them back would be really expensive and for this reason Saleen took the decision of modify them by by lowering them 2 inches and by installing the kit used for XP-8. However its power still remain of 205 hp;

SALEEN S7: Produced from 2000 to 2004, the first one produced by Saleen on its own drawn, equipped with a 427 alluminium block , 8 V cylinders, with six – speed gearbox.It boasted a 575 hp, with a couple of 712 Nm, an it a weigh of 1200 Kg. Amazing for that time! It could be considered as the forerunner of the concept of HYPERCAR. It reaches  0-100 Km/h in 3,1 sec, with a maximum speed of 366 Km/h;SALEEN S7 TT: Produced only for a year. From 2005 to 2006, Equipped with 2 thurbochargers that gave to it a 750 hp (that could be increased by the optional packages of  854 hp e 1060 hp), and an incredible couple of 949 Nm. It reaches 0-100 km/h  in 2,79 seconds and a  spped of  391,5 km/h, for years has been the car to beat. Steve wanted to demonstrate to Europeans that Americans know how to build supercars. Unconsciously he pushed further to those actually are classified as hypercars. Unfortunately, that car didn’t pass the emissions test EPA, putting an end to the Saleen S7 street-legal;

SALEEN S7R :From 2000 to 2007. Version created to run at the 24h of Le Mans, in the last 2 years of production could benefit from the aerodynamic upgrade of S7 TT;

SALEEN SA 20: produced in 2003 for the twenthief  anniversary, only 10 copies, all pearl white ,  with on 5 spoke weelsalways white pearl, black hood with yellow stripes and blacks and white leather interiors. It could be ordered only throug VILLA FORD concessionair, and as always the members of the SEOc has the right of prelation.

SALEEN FOCUS S121 N2O: 2005. based on Focus prject. Equipped with aesthetic,  trim, interior and prdisposition to nitrous oxid. Ford Motor declared that warranty will expire on the first use of nitrous

SALEEN SILVER ANNIVERSARY EDITIONS: Special edition for each year, one for each model(S281 3-Valve, S281SC, S302E, S331SC, S331SC SuperCrew), characterized by a livery and a silver theme dashboard;

SALEEN S302 PARNELLI JONES LIMITED EDITION: Special edition (the first one was  delivered november the 9th9 2006. Only 500 produced commemorating style of  BOSS 302 with which Parnelli Jones won everything in the 70’s (look at the dedicated article). The Shaker compressor has been exploited for the first time, patent of Saleen;

SALEEN S331: 2007, Pickup on Ford F-150 FX2, con 325 hp;

SALEEN S331 SC: 2007, Pickup on Ford F-150 FX2 base , 450 hp, supercharger, available in Super Cab and Super Crew version;

SALEEN S331 EXTREME: 2007, Pickup on Ford F-150 FX2 base , the extreme version of S331SC;

SALEEN S281 3 VALVE: Offfered from 2005 to 2007. 360 hp  e improved drivability, thanks to an upgraded engine and suspencions .

SALEEN S281 EXTREME: 2005, 550 hp (410 kW)  built on fifth generation, equippped with an engine completely created by Saleen, with supercharger. A front spoiler and a rear diffuser had been added for improving its aerodynamics. The present six- speed transmission,was studied for creating a modified version of Pontiac GTO. That car appeared in TRANSFORMERS in the  Decepticon, the one called BARRICADE;

SALEEN S281 SC: S281 version with a supercharger , with 450 hp;

SALEEN S281 SC Dan Gurney Limited Edition:2008, specimens (100 blue, 100 red, 100 white), 465 hp, commemorating the Boss 302 blue,driven by Dan Gurney in 1969 during Trans-Am championship;

SALEEN S281 RF/AF: The RF(Red Flag) and the AF(American Flag) are special versions of S281 SC 2007, to honour the U.S military. Only 24 has been produced : 8 wth a red base , 8 with white base and 8 with blue base. 465 hp power;

SALEEN H 281: Introduced for 2007 model, it had to be a limited edition of 100 doveva essere un’edizione limitata a 100 specimens, but only 68 specimens were built. It looks like the Parnelli Jones Edition, but it was available in different colours, and it was equipped with an engine similar to the S281 3-valves one. The differences found with the Parnelli  Joneswere only aesthetic, with the omission of  chromed profile and the lack of the hood scoop,  of the dedicated logos broadsides a hood wth the middle part matte black coloured and a smaller front spoiler;

SALEEN S281 Scenic Roof, First Edition: the option of a full glass top option was offered for all the models from 2006 to february 2007. These were handmade built by Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters di Fountain Valley, CA;

SALEEN S 302-E:620 hp (460 kW) – it borrows the Parnelli Jones edition engine , but it maximizes its performances with a  Saleen Series VI supercharger. this model replaces the S281E for 2008 model.

SALEEN SA 25: 2008, Only 25 produced, the Sterling Edition, based on Saleen S302 E, 620 hp of metallic silver road monster;

SALEEN H302-3V: 2008-09, 390 hp (290 kW) – It follows the line up of the H281. Unlike the H281, this version has the same hood scoop of the S302PJ, with which it also shares the mechanics and the 5l engine, without chrome profiles, it is available in all Ford OEM colours, except the Grabber Orange.  the lateral stripes are the same of the H281 ones;

SALEEN H302-SC: 2008-09, 580 hp (430 kW) – Equipped with a Saleen forced induction system, the H302 performances of have been increased with some special chenges of S302PJ, as Watts Link. Because of the compressor, this car doesn’t have the hood scoop.

SALEEN S302 DH: 2009, Dark Horse Edition, 62o hp. six-speed gearbox Tremec 6600, it has been the test bench for the Saleen Shakercharger compressor . 25 copies only (look at the dedicated article);

SALEEN SMS 25th anniversary Concept: 2008, 720 hp, only original single constructed. We think that is the most beautiful Saleen ever produced. Property of Steve Saleen, it has amazing lines ( see at the dedicated article);

SALEEN 302 : new car based on 2011-now Ford Mustang GT;

SALEEN 302 GF: 2014, 495 hp, 250 specimens. Built to commemorate one of the best pilots of our time, George Follmer,
