SIMON AND HIS BIG BERTHA…

A HISTORY OF PURE LOVE…

Today we’re gonna speak about Simon and his beloved Mustang II Classic Modified-affectionately known as Big Bertha!

He bought the car in a sorry state in 2011 after it had been sitting in a field for around 20 years(it was last on the road in 1989). The previous owner had bought it initially to use the V8 running gear and suspension to put into an american hot rod pick up that he had,he had removed the engine and gearbox, but that was as far as he got,so he bought a rolling shell. It was a rhd changeover box converted Stallion edition in black with black interior originally. When he bought it the full length fabric sunroof had split and started to actually fall through the roof, the rear tailgate, door bottoms, and all of the lower portions of the wings were badly corroded, the interior and carpets were tatty and rotten too, the car was full of body filler and the paint was badly crazed and peeling.

So Simon took the decision to build it into a Classic Modified to tarmac oval race at Swaffham Raceway in the Uk.

As well as repairing and remaking all of these sections including a complete roof,he remade the original bumper outlines in sheet steel and fitted a rear firewall and fabricated a full rollcage and removable exterior barwork to protect the body panelsthe outer bars are all removable and the boot, bonnet and doors all still open, there is also a removable passenger seat and harness fitted currently too, removed the front bulkhead and remade it 12″ further back to accomodate a Ford Sierra 2.8 V6 cologne engine and 5 speed gearbox, high capacity Volvo turbo radiator positioned diagonally, fitted ford p100 brake master cylinder, sleeved a mk escort steering column through the chassis and fitted a ford cortina rhd steering, hand made lower front suspension arms, fully adjustable adapted 2.5″coil over front suspension, poly bushed adjustable front tie arms also, standard vented discs and pads with adjustable bias, scratch built foot pedals. He designed it in the way that could be used to for track days, drifting and charity passenger rides.

In July 2013 the car debuts against the other smaller and lighter but similar V6 engined cars that race in the formula, providing some close racing and the Mustang winning a few races along the way!

That’a story of pure passion and it would mean that if you really love something you can give it a new life!

VERY WELL SIMON! Keep It Up!
